What to expect for your In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) Treatment at Thomson Fertility Centre

Comprehensive testing evaluates reproductive health, followed by hormonal stimulation to develop multiple eggs to optimise the chances of successful fertilisation.

Comprehensive testing evaluates reproductive health, followed by hormonal stimulation to develop multiple eggs to optimise the chances of successful fertilisation.

Once the eggs have reached maturity through hormonal stimulation, they are retrieved from the woman’s ovaries via egg retrieval. Simultaneously, male partner provides a semen sample, which is processed in the lab to isolate the healthiest and most motile sperm. The retrieved eggs and sperm are combined in the lab for fertilisation, either conventionally or through intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI).

Embryos are cultured and monitored in the lab for several days to assess quality and development.

Embryo is transferred into the uterus, followed by luteal support to promote implantation and pregnancy.

I'm ready to take the next step

Ready to take the next step on your fertility journey with IVF? Whether it’s beginning treatment or exploring more specialised options, Thomson Fertility Centre is with you at every turn. Let’s start with a fertility screening.

IVF treatment is suitable for couples facing various infertility challenges. Those with conditions such as tubal factor infertility, endometriosis, ovulatory disorders, or unexplained infertility may benefit from IVF. In addition, individuals with male factor infertility, including low sperm count or motility, or women with diminished ovarian reserve or advanced maternal age may opt for IVF to increase their chances of conception.

In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) is a process where an egg is fertilised by sperm outside the body in a laboratory. The fertilised egg, or embryo, is then transferred to the woman’s uterus to develop. The procedure involves several steps, including hormonal stimulation, egg retrieval, fertilisation, and embryo transfer.

IVF is generally safe, but like any medical procedure, it has some risks and side effects. Common side effects include bloating, cramping, and mood swings due to hormone medications. Less common risks include ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS), multiple pregnancies, and complications from egg retrieval. At Thomson Fertility Centre, our fertility specialists will discuss all potential risks with you before starting treatment.

The IVF process typically takes about four to six weeks from the start of ovarian stimulation to the embryo transfer. However, the entire journey, including initial consultations and any necessary preparatory treatments, can take several months. Our fertility specialists will provide a detailed timeline based on your treatment plan.

You should bring along your menstrual history, and any other medical or surgical history. If you have reports from previous health screening or medical institutions, do bring them along so you may have a more fruitful discussion with your fertility specialist. A family history of early menopause or other genetic issues would also be relevant.
